We had a fantastic Eid break at the exclusive Waldorf, Palm Jumeirah. We went along with a few friends to enjoy the incredible property and all the luxury that The Waldorf has to offer. It is interesting how one can be on the Palm and yet feel like they are thousands of miles away from Dubai. I guess I now understand the meaning of a Staycation!
Our pick for Dinner on our second night was Social by Heinz Beck. It was definitely the best decision of the day, and, in fact, perhaps even the best dining decision so far this year!
Reservation:
I believe the gentleman who answered my phone was Mr. Frank, the restaurant manager. What a pleasant voice! I requested an 8:30pm table which he quickly confirmed. I later called and requested for it to be changed to a 7:30pm reservation and he was extremely accommodating. The manner in which he spoke to me was in line with the excellent service that we were about to experience during our dinner.
Parking:
The hotel offers valet parking so whether you are a hotel resident guest or a visitor you should have no problem. The usual requirement of stamping the valet ticket applies.
Greeting & Seating:
A pleasant welcome by Mr. Frank himself followed by a polite accompaniment to our table by his colleague was the perfect start to the experience.
Knowledge & Service of the server(s):
Soon after being seated, we were cordially handed over the menus. A bottle of water was served immediately upon our request. Shortly thereafter, Mr. Luca, the assistant restaurant manager, came to our table to assist us with the menu and inform us of their specials. I have never come across anyone so confident of their recommendations. We were so convinced that we would enjoy whatever he advised that we just simply accepted his recommendations.
Our Order:
We ordered a Panzanella, a Veal Vitellato for the appetizers and a Fagotelli for the main course. For desert, we ordered Raspberries 1.1.
Courtesy extended during the meal:
Not much to say here except that this was close to perfection! We were served complimentary amuse bouche followed by our appetizers & main course. Small sized desert bites were served post desert as compliments of the chef. At all points during the meal, there was someone keeping an eye on us without being intrusive, and somehow, they were able to predict our requirements. Be it a refill of a beverage or replacement of cutlery, we were not given the opportunity to ask. I could not be more pleased by their service. The Chef even stopped by to check in on us and ensure everything was fine.
Food Quality & Taste:
When a 3 Star Michel Chef brings Italian modern dining to Dubai, you know you are in the right hands. Heinz Beck does justice to his popularity and ensures not only service par excellence but also food that is exquisite in every way. Every dish we ordered was exceptional.
Ambiance:
When I choose to dine at fine dining venues, I expect that the restaurant is appropriately lit to bring in a relaxed yet luxurious experience. This is exactly what Social creates as an ambiance. I believe that they set the right mood with the interiors that they have constructed.
Price:
In regards to pricing, it’s worth noting that the restaurant is known as one of Dubai’s finest and is priced accordingly. We ordered water, 2 beverages, 2 appetizers, a main course to be shared, and a dessert, all for AED 466/-. All extras were complimentary.
Overall would I return?
A 100 times yes. I am already planning my next visit!
Chef’s recommendations:
I generally include a list of specific dishes that the staff and chef recommend in this section of the review. At Social, the recommendations are made based on the guest’s individual preferences and therefore I would not necessarily put down a definite set of recommendations. Discuss with you server and I am sure they will suggest the right meal based on your requirements. If you have any dietary restrictions, I suggest you inform them in advance so that they can prepare accordingly. Overall, I do not think that there is any way you can go wrong with this venue!
