Reading the newspaper reviews and seeing the accompanying photos of the fiery orange, red and black deco of this recently opened restaurant in Mirdiff City Center, I just had to try it out this weekend. But sadly, I was a little disappointed at both, the food and the service. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t as good as I had expected either. The servers looked tensed and were rushing all the time, and served us water without asking what drinks we wanted to order. All this was a little understandable, since the restaurant was running in its initial few weeks, but they better get used to it soon, because it was making us really uncomfortable. The food was regular, not out-of-the-ordinary tasty. My husband and I ordered Tawa Murg, Rogan Josh and Murg Makhni with Naan. All were standard fare, served in portions you find similar in any other Indian restaurant. I wouldn’t go there if I were to treat someone to authentic, finger-licking Indian food. I can count far too many Indian restaurants around town where I can get much tastier food, for lot less price. |

If you’re looking for a place, with good Indian food in the Mirdif area I would definitely recommend Zafran. Although, located amidst the retail stores of Mirdif City Center, the soft lighting and instrumental music create a peaceful ambience. Upon arriving at Zafran, we requested for a table for two, and were promptly seated. The staff were friendly and helpful, especially in terms of food recommendations. We were served our drinks and appetizers (aaloo tikki with chickpeas) in quick time, and we were particularly impressed with the presentation of the food. I definitely suggest trying one of the lassis (traditional Indian butter milk). For the main course, we ordered the yellow dal, the zafrani prawns and the butter chicken, along with some garlic naan and onion kulcha. The prawns were fantastic, and I would highly recommend ordering them when you visit. In addition, the dal and chicken were also delicious, however if you are the kind of person who enjoys your Indian food spicy then I would advise requesting them to make it more spicy. The food, in general, was also lighter than other Indian restaurants, which is a definite positive. For dessert, we ordered the gulab jamun with yoghurt cheesecake, a perfect fusion of the east and west. Overall, it was an enjoyable Friday lunch, although we did need to take an extended walk around the mall after gorging on all that delicious food! |
